Chairman`s Report: 2012

Dear Fellow Royal Alfred Marina Property Owner

November 1, 2012 commemorated the 25th anniversary of breaking ground for the development of the marina.

In October this year we experienced the worst floods in living memory resulting in large scale devastation to the Ndlambe district and to Port Alfred. Your marina was structurally unscathed except for the deposition of a substantial sand bar at the entrance to the small boat harbour for the first time in its history and at the entrances to the first two canals diagonally opposite the harbour and Halyard.

We are proud of our Blue Flag status awarded for the 2012/2013 season. The Blue Flag environmental award is given to marinas making a special effort to implement sound management with respect to local environment and nature and providing users with information on environmental issues.

The Blue Flag is concerned with four main areas:
 Environmental education and information
 Environmental management
 Safety and service facilities
 Water quality.

We wish to record our appreciation to the Manager for all the work he has put in to facilitate the application leading to the successful award of the Blue Flag. Our marina is the first exclusively residential marina to have received the award and is now benchmarked internationally. We have no doubt that this achievement, if communicated in the correct manner, will result in property values appreciating in the marina. We also wish to thank him for maintaining financial discipline and containing costs throughout the year.

We wish you and your families a merry Christmas and prosperous New Year and safe travels.

Sincerely
Justin Steyn
Chairman
25 November 2012
