The KCC Christmas Dinner

The Kowie Camera Club held its annual Christmas dinner at the Royal Alfred Marina clubhouse on Friday 1 December 2023.
The Club recognised the best images entered into its official competition in a variety of categories during the course of the year. Club Chairperson, Herman Groenewald, lauded the high quality of photography seen in the 55-65 photos entered in the competition each month - a remarkable number for a small club like KCC. He also thanked members for actively participating in the competition, photo outings and other club events.
Ten awards were handed out during the course of the evening to deserving club members. These were:
Junior Category:
- 3rd place: Derick Oosthuizen
- 2nd place: Charl Durand
- Winner: Simon Pamphilon
Senior Category:
- 3rd place: Herman Groenewald
- 2nd place: Tony Mitchell
- Winner: Lynton Perry
Other Awards:
- Best progress for 2023: Colin Murphy
- Most COM awards received: Simon Pamphilon
- Photo of the year: Koos Franken (based in Cape Town)
- Winner of the Chairman's Trophy: Colin Murphy
The broad talent in the Club can be seen in the wide variety of photos that were entered into the competition during the course of the year. Photos ranged from pin-sharp birding shots, wildlife, evocative portraiture, breathtaking landscapes and a number of original creative and abstract images.
The constant lively chatter and hum of conversation was clearly a signal that all those present enjoyed the evening thoroughly.
To close the evening Herman thanked the members who worked hard to keep the club active, and extended a special thanks to the Marina management for making their clubhouse available to the club, not only for the Christmas dinner but also for other club events as well.
